About the Opportunity

Carers ACT has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Case Manager - Mental Health Young Carers to join their dynamic team in Gungahlin, Canberra.  This position is a temporary contract role working until June 2016 (with the option of extension pending funding).

Within this pivotal role, you will be responsible for providing high quality case management for young carers and families with complex needs.  Reporting to the Carer Support Manager and Team Leader you will liaise with school counsellors and service providers, guide referrals and monitor service needs.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing medium to long term support planning by working closely with young carers and their families to improve the quality of life;
  • Developing support networks with a combination of community and natural supports;
  • Supporting young carers to make sustainable changes through case coordination and advocacy; and
  • Maintaining accurate client and service provider records.

To be successful in this role you will need experience of working in the Mental health and/or Youth sector. You will use your empathetic and flexible approach to manage the sensitivities around issues for young carers.  In addition, you will have a demonstrable understanding of caring issues within a community environment and a genuine desire to help others and improve the lives of young carers!

Working to develop strong relationships you will need to be a compassionate and understanding individual, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in challenging situations.

Importantly, you will be confident using Word, spreadsheets and calendar management software. A current driver's licence is also mandatory.
