Approximately 15% of children under the age of 16 are affected by serious long term health conditions. As they recover, the time they lose from school can have a devastating effect on their future life chances.
Ronald McDonald Learning Program helps children recovering from serious illness, through one-on-one tuition and professional development for teachers. Provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Learning Program helps seriously ill kids catch up on their missed schooling and enjoy the same chances in life as their peers.
About the Opportunity
Ronald McDonald House Charities has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Regional Coordinator of the Ronald McDonald Learning Program to be based in Darwin. The role is 1 day per week with the potential to increase, and offers some flexibility in your working hours.
The role is unique and rare that's perfect for a parent with teaching background wanting to return to the workforce, a job with real meaning and a sense of purpose that offers the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of many people. In addition, you will receive a salary package commensurate with the responsibilities of the role.
Reporting to the RMLP State Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating the Ronald McDonald Learning Program in Darwin, ensuring delivery of a quality education program for seriously ill kids and building positive longstanding relationships with all key stakeholders, including children, families, schools and tutors.
More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but not be limited to):

Delivering high standards of educational care and service delivery to families in the program;

Being responsible to the State Manager for the quality, effectiveness and professionalism of the RMLP in your designated area;

Implementing the RMLP according to the direction, guidelines and methodology specified by the State Manager;

Managing a case load of students and associated administrative duties in relation to this case load;

Managing the assessment and enrolment process for students meeting the RMLP target group;

Sourcing teachers to work with students and implementing program for families;

Delivery of professional development to Northern Territory teachers; and

Liaising with student’s home school personnel, family, tutors and therapists to maximise outcomes for students.
Your experience as a qualified Special Education Coordinator or Teacher will be vital to your success, along with your strong communication skills, compassion and commitment.
In addition, you'll need exceptional negotiation skills to maximise opportunities for students in their home school, and have demonstrated excellent time management skills. You will need well established personal coping skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
RMLP is looking for an honest and trustworthy individual who is broad minded, tolerant and non-judgmental. You'll also need to possess a sociable and friendly disposition and a great sense of humour, with the ability to remain cheerful in tough times. Importantly, you'll be a team player who is willing to work to the organisation's common purpose. In addition, a current drivers license and reliable vehicle is essential for this role.
