About the Organisation

The Gold Coast Medicare Local (GCML) is an independent, not for profit, primary health care organisation. It aims to improve the health and well-being of the Gold Coast community by working in partnership with health and community services such as general practice, allied health, mental health, aged care and youth services.

Medicare Locals have been established across Australia to coordinate and integrate health and community services and to identify local needs and create local strategies in response.

GCML receives funding primarily, but not exclusively, from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

About the Opportunity

Gold Coast Medicare Local has a key position available for a Director of Strategy and Systems Improvement to join their team, based at Burleigh Waters, Gold Coast. 

In this vital role, you'll be responsible for achieving key organisational accountabilities in line with the GCML's strategic direction. In addition, you will be responsible for providing leadership and managing a team of Program Managers.

More specifically, your key accountability will be to improve community Health and Wellbeing through:

  • Undertaking regional planning, partnering and community engagement;
  • Reducing health risks and promoting good health and early intervention;
  • Implementing knowledge management systems to identify best practice and develop systems for integration, performance and quality improvement;
  • Developing new services and commissioning systems; and
  • Implementing and managing organisational planning, evaluation and reporting frameworks.

The successful candidate will possess extensive senior management experience in the health care or community services field and/or tertiary qualifications relevant to the role.  You'll be a strong leader with the capacity to develop, implement and evaluate the GCML's strategy, frameworks, policy and programs.  In addition, you will have experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives within the primary health care or community services field. Importantly, you will be comfortable working in an environment of rapid change and have strong knowledge of the relationship between the primary healthcare industry and other parts of the health and human services sector.

Gold Coast Medicare Local is looking for a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who has the ability to develop rapport and build strong relationships with various stakeholders.  Additionally, you'll have excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.  You'll need to display initiative and be self-motivated, allowing you to work both independently and as part of a team and will also have the ability to think conceptually enabling you to analyse issues and develop innovative strategies within organisational constraints.

Demonstrated computer literacy in a range of software packages including the Microsoft Office suite of products is essential.
