Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local is an independent, not-for-profit organisation with its own board comprised of community and health professionals with business and management expertise.  They have more than 160 staff made up of GPs, clinical staff, primary health care professionals and program managers.

Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local work in areas such as health system integration, mental health service delivery within the primary health care sector, Closing the Gap initiatives, after hours general practice services, quality improvement programs within general practices, and provide administrative support. They also specialise in delivery of CPD that focuses on multidisciplinary approaches to service delivery. All programs are designed and delivered by health professionals.

About the Opportunity

Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local currently has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Health Promotion Coordinator to join their dedicated workforce, based in Mackay, QLD. 

Reporting to the General Manager, Mackay, you will be working in partnership with communities, internal staff and external stakeholders to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate a range of population health interventions and strategies to improve the wellbeing of the community. In addition, you'll be providing strategic direction on health promotion activities and initiatives across the Medicare Local.

Some of your primary responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Leading the development and delivery of health promotion activities;
  • Acting as a resource to develop the skills of Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local staff to deliver evidence based health promotion initiatives;
  • Developing resources and processes to support and integrate a culture of best practice health promotion;
  • Preparing and presenting reports related to Health Promotion;
  • Promoting the Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local profile through community and engagement activities;
  • Supporting models of service delivery and community engagement strategies;
  • Facilitating continuing professional development for partners and stakeholders involved in health promotion practice and development; and
  • Encouraging cooperation and teamwork to build and maintain staff morale.

To be successful in this role, you'll possess a Bachelor of Health Promotion or equivalent tertiary qualifications. You'll have strong knowledge and experience of developing health promotion strategies, programs and initiatives, in addition to a comprehensive understanding of contemporary issues in the health care system.

It is essential that you thrive in a team environment as you lead, educate, support and build the capacity of teams to deliver effective health promotion in a variety of settings.

Working with a culturally diverse range of people, it is essential that you have exceptional verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to engage with and educate Primary Health Care providers. In addition, you will use your excellent time management skills to manage multiple projects.

You must be able to work flexible hours and possess or be willing to obtain a current Blue Card, Police Check and Drivers Licence to be considered for this role.
