About the Organisation
Established in 1997, the Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) is a national non-government organisation that represents the interests of the Australian mental health sector, and is committed to achieving better mental health for all Australians.
MHCA members include national organisations representing consumers, carers, special needs groups, clinical service providers, public and private mental health service providers, researchers and state/territory community mental health peak bodies.
The MHCA aims to promote mentally healthy communities, educate Australians on mental health issues, conduct research into mental health issues and reform Australia's mental health system.
About the Opportunity
The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) has an exciting full time opportunity for an experienced Communications Manager (Stakeholder Engagement) to join their passionate and skilled team, based in Deakin, ACT.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, you'll be responsible for identifying opportunities and risks associated with MHCA internal, sector-specific and public communications, as well as engaging with MHCA membership and other stakeholders, ensuring that stakeholder views are always reflected in MHCA advocacy.
In addition, you will manage all MHCA publications and specific projects as required.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Implementing structures and processes for capturing the priorities of members;
- Managing internal communications and staff engagement in collaboration with the Corporate Services Manager;
- Developing relationships with key organisations and individuals in the mental health and other related sectors including design, print and distribution agencies;
- Identifying key emerging issues through contact with stakeholders and ensuring that these are communicated to the appropriate parties;
- Designing, developing and producing all MHCA publications; and
- Writing and editing material for publications, reports and other communication materials.
To be considered, you will have tertiary qualifications or equivalent in a relevant discipline, along with demonstrated experience in consultation and engagement with a variety of stakeholders. Importantly, you'll be someone that enjoys solving the communications challenges that arise when stakeholders are dispersed geographically, and you'll have experience or an interest in publications and project management. Experience working with mental health stakeholders will be highly regarded.
You'll have a creative flair, allowing you to manage print and design processes, and your written and verbal communication skills will be second to none, giving you the ability to deliver presentations and information to all internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will have strong interpersonal and negotiating skills allowing you to effectively liaise with people of different backgrounds in the community.
The successful candidate will be able to work effectively both in a team environment and autonomously, and you will have solid project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
