About the Organisation
The Victoria Daly Shire Council became an entity on the 1st July 2008 through the amalgamation of 8 Northern Territory Community Councils covering an area of 168,000sqkm an area, approximately twice the size of Tasmania. Council's aim is to strengthen its communities with local people delivering shire services to their own communities with the skills and knowledge of their own culture, community and people.
Victoria Daly Shire is now four years old as an organisation, so the Council is currently recruiting people who share their vision to help develop the brand new organisation.
About the Katherine region
Katherine, with a population of over 9,200, is situated 300 km southeast of Darwin in the "Top End", the third largest community in the Northern Territory. About the Opportunity
Victoria Daly Shire Council has a pivotal opportunity for a full-time Executive Manager (Technical Operations) to lead its Infrastructure and Civil Works team based in various locations throughout the Shire.
Reporting the the Chief Executive Officer, you will primarily be responsible for managing, developing and motivating the Asset Management, Civil, Regional Housing and Essential Services divisions, ensuring effective and efficient operations are delivered.
Covering a large geographical area with complex cultural and community expectations, you will show exceptional communication and leadership skills reflective of the Shire's policies and procedures.
More specifically, some of your duties will include (but not be limited to):
- Maintaining a high standard of Council technical operations including external road maintenance, housing maintenance and tenancy management programs, local government operational services and capital works programs;
- Developing and implementing technical operational plans consistent with Council's objectives and in partnership with the Executive Manager of Community Operations;
- Supervising of direct staff and overseeing indirect staff and the administration of the Technical Operations services; and
- Modelling and promoting appropriate social, ethical and organisational standards in all interactions.
This is a senior leadership position and accordingly, the successful candidate will have a proven ability to lead, manage and develop staff from a range of backgrounds and in cultural context. Importantly, you will be able to work effectively in a political environment, and be comfortable with the high level of accountability and responsibilities of an Executive Manager role.
Your previous project management experience will also be pivotal to your success, and you will ideally have managed large scale, multi faceted projects within tight budgetary constraints.
This role requires an applicant with strong personal integrity, well developed oral and written communication skills and a high level of self-motivation. Applicants with a track record of solving problems analytically and strategically, along with high attention to detail, will be viewed favourably.
