About the Opportunities
Bowhill Produce has a exciting opportunities for an innovative and enthusiastic Farm Operations Manager and a Machinery Operator to join their close-knit business in Bowhill, SA.
In these varied and hands-on roles, you will be responsible for driving the production of crops, as well as undergoing tasks associated with the day-to-day running of the farming operations.
About the Farm Operations Manager role:
Working collaboratively with the General Manager, your feedback, experience and ideas will be called upon - and used - to ensure maintenance of the current farm operations, and growth for the future.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Operating machinery including tractors, harvesting, seeding and spraying equipment;
- Researching suitable technologies and implementing them strategically;
- Overseeing or training staff when necessary; and
- Scheduling and hands-on management of irrigation.
To succeed in this role, you'll have experience in vegetable production systems and irrigation systems (especially centre pivot irrigation), along with an overall understanding of seasonality in farming and cropping, including crop nutrition, pests and diseases, monitoring and scheduling. Additionally, you'll have experience with GPS technology, automated watering systems, fertigation and telemetry as well as basic mechanical and welding skills. Chemical accreditation is essential for this role, and a tertiary qualification in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
This role requires a hands-on approach, with a willingness to learn and adopt new modern technology practices and techniques. You'll have a high attention to detail and accurate record keeping skills, as well as strong communication and time management skills, allowing you to manage differing priorities effectively. Computer literacy skills are also essential.
About the Machinery Operator role:
Reporting to the Farm Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for operating farming machinery including tractors, harvesting, seeding and spraying equipment as well as maintaining irrigation.
Your key to success will be your understanding of and experience with GPS technology in a farm setting
The successful candidate will have experience in and an understanding of vegetable production systems, farming machinery operation and basic maintenance as well as automated watering systems. Working with experienced management, you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn and develop your skills in this rewarding position as well as broaden your career horizons with opportunities to progress.
