About the Opportunity
Due to expansion of services, the NPA Family and Community Services ATSI Corporation has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Healing Centre Coordinator / Counsellor to join their dedicated team in Bamaga, QLD.
Reporting to the Program Manager – Client Support Services, the purpose of this position is to coordinate the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention activities of the NPA Healing Centre. With three direct reports, you will be providing counselling to victims and perpetrators of domestic and/or family violence, which includes individual, couples and family counselling.
Programs delivered at the NPA Healing Centre focus on the reduction of violence, anger management and reduction of stress.
More specifically, some of your duties will be to:
- Coordinate all support services offered by the NPA Healing Centre – art therapy, community education on domestic and family violence;
- Develop/maintain pathways for victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence to access appropriate support services;
- Supervise and manage the performance of staff employed in the Healing Centre;
- Provide staff with regular opportunities to debrief from work related stress and issues;
- Provide training to Healing Centre staff as required to assist them to maintain and develop improved practice skills;
- Participate in NPA interagency meetings concerning domestic and family violence issues in the communities;
- Counsel individuals and/or couples with a focus on domestic and family violence;
- Conduct mediation sessions to resolve community and family conflicts as requested by individuals involved in disputes; and
- Represent the organisation and/or programs at conferences and workshops as required.
The successful candidate will require qualifications in Social Work, Community Welfare, Counselling, Psychology or a similar field. You'll have a minimum of 2 years experience in counselling, working with families on relationship issues, child neglect and/or domestic and family violence. Your background will have given you existing knowledge and an understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 and Domestic/Family Violence Act. You will have experience in staff management, and excellent communication skills, including negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution.
Ideally, you will also have experience working with indigenous people, and knowledge of current social and health issues affecting the community.
In addition, the successful applicant will possess a current driver's licence as well as eligibility for a Children's Commission Working with Children suitability blue card. You must also be willing to undergo a criminal record check.

The successful applicant will enjoy a generous remuneration package of $75,000. Furthermore, you will receive reimbursement for up to $3,000 relocation costs to the area, and fully furnished accommodation in Bamaga for $80 per week.
