About the Organisation 

The Victoria Daly Shire Council became an entity on the 1st July 2008 through the amalgamation of 8 Northern Territory Community Councils covering an area of 168,000sqkm an area, approximately twice the size of Tasmania. Council's aim is to strengthen its communities with local people delivering shire services to their own communities with the skills and knowledge of their own culture, community and people.

Victoria Daly Shire is now four years old as an organisation, so the Council is currently recruiting people who share their vision to help develop the brand new organisation.

About the Katherine region

Katherine, with a population of over 9,200, is situated 300 km southeast of Darwin in the "Top End", the third largest community in the Northern Territory. The Region offers an abundance of experiences, boasting many natural attractions while providing a diverse outdoor and outback lifestyle for its residents.

About the Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP)

The Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP) is the Australian Government’s approach to providing employment services and participation activities and associated community engagement in remote Australia. The RJCP will commence on 1 July 2013.  The program aims to achieve personal, social and economic development through active participation, jobs and strong communities in remote Australia.

RJCP is based on community ownership and involvement; it encourages and promotes collaborative, community-driven approaches to conducting employment and participation activities.

About the Opportunity 

Victoria Daly Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a full-time RJCP Compliance Officer to join their team based at the head office in Katherine, NT.

In this newly created role, you will be responsible for ensuring RJCP services, systems and processes achieve the objective of the program. This will involve working in close collaboration with the Senior Employment Training Broker and Region Coordinator to conduct and monitor participation management, contractual performance, system utilisation and related quality, reporting and administrative functions.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing timely and accurate reports and feedback on the quality, completeness and timeliness of information required by DEEWR and FaHCSIA;
  • Verifying that referral and registration of eligible job seekers is carried out in accordance with contractual guidelines;
  • Collecting documentary evidence for all outcome claims and payments as per RJCP contractual guidelines;
  • Entering activity payments, job placement payments, outcome payment and participation outcomes for approval; and
  • Conducting, recording and monitoring Post Placement Support weekly with job seekers and employers for education and employment placements.

To be successful, you must have extensive experience and expert level knowledge in case management and contract management as well as quality and compliance.  You will have the ability to process complex information using computers and online platforms.  Importantly, you will have a keen eye for detail and display a high level of accuracy when processing complex written information.

An important aspect of this position will find you liaising with external employers in the region so it is essential that you have exceptional communication skills and experience building and developing relationships with external stakeholders.  You will also need excellent written communication skills including the ability to produce written reports.

Advanced computer literacy and extensive experience with the Microsoft suite of products is essential to be considered for this position.  While not required, candidates with a Cert IV in Employment Services and/or those with previous experience living and working in remote communities will be highly regarded.
