About the Organisation
In 2014 Burdekin Youth in Action (BYIA) and Broome Youth Support Group (BYSG) held a series of discussions about how to best service youth and families in the Broome region. From these conversations it was decided that delivering the services of both organisations from a single organisation would have a raft of benefits including:
- Reduced administrative overheads
- Single governance body enhancing recruitment of skilled office bearers and reducing committee fatigue
- Integrated provision of youth and families services across the Broome township
It was also discussed that a single provider would be best-positioned to represent Broome in discussions with government, philanthropic organisations and other stakeholders maximising funding and partnership opportunities. From these conversations the concept of Broome Youth and Families Hub (BYHF) emerged.
The aim of this new organisation is to work with young people and their families to develop life skills, identify strengths, assess and mitigate risk factors strengthen their capacity for resilience and promote positive relationships. The goal of BYFH is to engage with young people and their families in ways that are sustainable, will build resilience, and ultimately increase social wellbeing.
The Broome Youth and Families Hub currently operates from two different sites but will now be able to streamline its administration, to provide a more comprehensive service to the youth and families of Broome.
About the Opportunity
The Broome Youth and Families Hub now has a fantastic opportunity for a mature Youth Services Manager to join their team in Broome, WA.
Reporting directly to the Management Committee, you will be responsible for overseeing all functions of BYFH and managing the organisation Coordinators.
More specifically, some of your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Effectively monitoring budgets and preparing financial reports, working within budget and funding constraints;
- Liaising with funding bodies and key stakeholders;
- Overseeing the timely submission of reports and contractual obligations; and
- Ensuring the sustainability of BYFH in consultation with the Management Committee.
BYFH is seeking a professional candidate who has significant experience working in a community services environment, preferably with young people, as well as demonstrated experience in NGO management. Although not essential, relevant tertiary qualifications will be looked upon favourably.
The new Youth Services Manager will be a driven individual, bringing adaptability and innovation to this management role. You will be self-motivated and your exceptional interpersonal skills will allow you to work collaboratively with, motivate and inspire your team.
Importantly, you will be well organised and demonstrate the ability to use initiative when managing competing priorities. A strong business perspective and problem solving skills will help you to identify opportunities for business improvement, while your coordination, planning and decisiveness will see you meeting deadlines and producing accurate, efficient work.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals or communities will also be highly beneficial to your success in this role.
