A Day in the Life of a Topdeck Coach Driver

Just imagine...you have just completed our city lights tour, having negotiated one of our brand new coaches through the narrow arches of the Louvre, stayed calm in the busy traffic on the Champs-Elysées, perfectly timed to arrive at the Eiffel Tower just in time as the illuminations are turned on. A passenger is amazed at your geographical knowledge of Paris. This is only day 1!

A 680 kilometre drive South Eastwards you arrive in the heart of the Swiss Mountains. On arrival the passengers are awestruck by the scenery so quick work is made with helping to set up the passenger tents, that’s if you are not staying in one of the cosy log cabins. After lending a hand to our Topdeck chefs you will be spoilt by the food they have prepared and after a long day a beer is well deserved. This is also a great chance to start to get to know some of your 48 passengers, crack a few jokes and also catch up with other Topdeck crew that have arrived on various different trips.

An early start the next morning ensures you have your coach cleaned in a matter of hours. With the coach glistening in the morning sunshine and a passenger will have already noticed your dedication to your coach. Often then rest of the day is free time, to simply enjoy scenery, sit down for a relaxing Topdeck crew lunch or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous there is always the option to go skydiving!

Further down the road you might find yourself driving into Moscow for the first time, navigating your way along the narrow coastal roads of Croatia or marvelling at the midnight sun over the Norwegian fjords.

Saying good-bye to passengers and off course your Topdeck trip leader and on-road chef after a 34 day trip will be the hardest part of this job. You will have made new friends who have come from places as diverse as Australia, Brazil, South Korea and Canada, to name but a few. The sense of achievement in knowing you have not taken one wrong turn is second to none and the best thing is knowing that after a few days-off you get to do it all again!
