Harbour City Ferries operates approximately 175,000 services, transporting more than 14 million people across Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River each year. About the Opportunity

Harbour City Ferries has an exciting opportunity for a Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Manager to join their team in Sydney. 

Reporting directly to the General Manager SHEQ, you'll manage the development and implementation of work health and safety strategies, programs, standards and processes, to support the integrated Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Management System and Strategic Plan.

Your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Researching relevant legislation, regulations and best practice standard to support the development of health and safety management strategies;
  • Providing expert advice on work health and safety strategies, programs, systems, policies, standards and processes;
  • Conducting planned and ad-hoc workplace observations, formal inspections, audits, and consultations with staff and other stakeholders to identify health and safety hazards;
  • Facilitating the development and maintenance of a Risk Register to identify and manage hazards, safety issues and risk levels;
  • Building and maintaining strong and working relationships with managers, staff and others to promote the SHEQ Management System and support a total systems approach to health and safety; and
  • Working collaboratively to create effective risk management systems.

To be successful in this role, you will hold tertiary qualifications in work health and safety or a related field, and will be eligible for membership with the Safety Institute of Australia. You'll have experience in a marine environment, as well as in the development of work health and safety systems, processes and programs in a similar industry. Additionally, you will also have a sound knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation including Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act.

You will be a proven leader with training and coaching skills, who can build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with managers and staff at all levels. You'll utilise your analytical and problem solving skills daily to assess the workplace for risk potential, as well as your strong interpersonal skills to consult, facilitate and negotiate the implementation of work health and safety, ethical practice and equal opportunity practices.  

You'll also be a team player with strong communication skills, supported by sound organisational and administrative skills.
