About the Organisation

Drummond Street Services (DSS) is a non-governmental, non-denominational agency that provides family services, relationship counselling and group work to people from diverse backgrounds. The organisation also offers an education and training service providing a range of professionals with training on all aspects of relationship work.

The centre has 125 years in the development of innovative services that strengthen family relationships and provide a safe space for individuals, couples and families to explore and work on issues which impact on the quality of their relationships. These include:

  • Parenting programs and community education to promoting healthy strong families;
  • Prevention programs throughout the family life cycle to increase families strength;
  • Early intervention programs at key family transitions where families are particularly vulnerable, such as birth of a child and relationship difficulties; AND in areas which impact on family relationships such as separation and divorce,  family violence, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse; and
  • Maintenance programs which assist families which have negotiated difficulties such as separation and are re-partnering.

About the Opportunity

Due to the exciting partnership between Drummond Street Services and the Barwon Medicare Local, a fantastic full-time opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to establish the Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) team based in Geelong, VIC. 

Based in Geelong and reporting to the Director of Services, you'll contribute to the establishment and maintenance of the Family Mental Health Support Service through the coordination of staff, programs and invention activities.

More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Ensuring the program objectives are achieved;
  • Coordinating the development and delivery of all programs, activities and interventions of the FMHSS;
  • Identifying opportunities for service development, partnerships, as well as quality and continuous improvement;
  • Providing supervision and regular performance feedback to your team; and
  • Delivering counselling and group sessions for family members impacted by mental illness.

To be successful in this role, you'll have an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology or another similar discipline coupled with experience coordinating or leading programs within the Mental Health Service system.  Post-graduate Counselling qualifications as well as training related to mental health and illness, families and relationships is essential.  Importantly, you will also have an understanding of family relationship issues and the family life cycle including relationship formation, enhancement, separation, family reformation and step/blended families. 

Drummond Street Services is looking for a proven leader with the capacity to work as part of a team and provide clinical supervision.  You will also have experience in the development and delivery of community education across a broad range of Mental Health topics for families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and/or Same-Sex families. Experience in program and practice development, evaluation, reporting and submission writing is also an essential requirement of this position. 

A current driver's licence is required before commencing in this position.
