About the Organisation

Drummond Street Services (DSS) is a non-denominational, not-for-profit agency that provides a range of family support services, including mental health family relationships, parent and community support and education.

We have over 125 years' experience in the delivery and the development of innovative, research-based universal and targeted preventative and early intervention programs inclusive to the diversity of the local communities where we are based.  The focus of our support is strengthening families through;

  • Providing direct support to families with children and young people;
  • Individual Parenting support and group and community education to promote strong families;
  • Prevention programs throughout the family life cycle to increase families resilience, strengths and skills;
  • Early intervention programs at key family transitions where families are particularly vulnerable, such as the birth of a child and relationship difficulties; and a range of issues that can impact on family relationships; and
  • Maintenance programs which assist families to negotiate difficulties and challenges such as separation and are re-partnering.

About the Opportunity

Drummond Street Services in partnership with Barwon Medicare Local, Primary Mental Health Partnerships has a fantastic employment opportunity for a Mental Health Support Practitioner (Family and Child) to join a small but effective and committed team based in Geelong, VIC. 

Based in Geelong you'll provide high quality Family and Child Support to families with children (0-18 years) dealing with, or at risk of, mental health issues.

This is a diverse role requiring an experienced practitioner who is able to;

  • Deliver a range of supportive whole-of-family focused interventions using a range of approaches and strategies;
  • Providing appropriate and responsive family casework, including supportive engagement and support;
  • Engage with and conduct appropriate family/child centred assessments, as well as the delivery and development of community education and group work;
  • Negotiate and develop support plans based on needs and goals for clients and their families; and
  • Contribute to achievement of program targets and KPIs.

To be successful in this role, you'll have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology or similar, coupled with experience in family based work.  Experience in the family service and/or mental health sector is essential and have an understanding of family relationship issues and the family life cycle, as well as a range of therapeutic and supportive approaches specifically for children and young people.

Drummond Street Services is seeking an individual who has demonstrated experience working alongside families, (some experiencing multiple and complex needs). Your strong track record, coupled with your capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team will be vital to your success in this role. You will also have experience in the implementation of innovative approaches to service delivery in an integrated, not-for-profit family service environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with experience or the capacity to directly contribute to program and practice development and stakeholder engagement are essential to your success in this position.
