About the Opportunity
Forbes Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Technician (or Engineer): Water, Sewer and Stormwater to join their dynamic team.
Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the main aim of this role is to research, develop and provide council with professional engineering advice on strategic planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of water supply and wastewater systems.
Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and reviewing the Water Supply and Waste Water infrastructure;
- Preparing management plans, contracts and auditing and reviewing processes for headworks, treatment and distribution components of the water supply and water schemes;
- Coordinating investigation and programming of future works;
- Liaising with relevant public utility authorities in relation to Council's services; and
- Ensuring that all employees and contractors and their employees under the direction or control of the position receive adequate instruction for the safe and efficient performance of their duties.
Essential requirements for the role include planning, organisational and project management skills, as well as a solid working knowledge of quality assurance, OH&S and environmental information.
Ideally, you will have a degree in Civil Engineering or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through a technical qualification combined with extensive experience. A post graduate qualification in a related field will also be looked on favourably.
In addition, you will need to have knowledge of computer applications including MS Office, GIS mapping and project management software. Well developed negotiation skills, the ability to work cooperatively in a busy office and possession of a NSW driver's licence are also essential requirements for this role.
Experience in monitoring the reviewing and operation of water and sewer infrastructure will be held in high regard as will knowledge of the legislative environment in which Forbes Shire Council operates. The successful applicants may be required to make occasional group presentations so excellent verbal communication skills are required for the role.
