About the Organisation

Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation (MPREC), established August 2003, is a government funded not-for-profit organisation with a primary objective of providing Indigenous communities with relevant and effective services.

The corporation has five primary objectives (driven by its constitution). These include:

  • Development and implementation of effective employment strategies;
  • Enterprise projects and business development and associated consultancy services;
  • Delivery of accredited training;
  • Development and implementation of community programs and services; and
  • Provision of CDEP and similar services.

The Murdi Paaki Region comprises the whole of Western NSW, from the Victoria to Queensland borders. Many communities are critically disadvantaged by remoteness. There are 16 communities: Gulargambone, Coonamble, Collarenebri, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Goodooga, Brewarrina, Bourke, Weilmoringle, Enngonia, Cobar, Ivanhoe, Wilcannia, Menindee, Broken Hill and Dareton / Wentworth.

There are six key service delivery (divisional) components of MPREC: Administration (including reception, warehouse and logistics), Youth Division (including youth programs, youth centres and youth advisory council), Employment Training Unit (including Job Services Australia, CDEP, Australian Integrated Training and HR), Business Unit (including economic panel projects, specified projects and media unit), Building Unit (including MP Building Projects), and Financial Division (including acquittals, finance and payroll).

About the Opportunity

Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and flexible Finance & Funding Manager to join their team in Dubbo, NSW.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a senior role in which you'll be responsible for assisting in the growth of the Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation. This will include leading the financial management function of the organisation including ensuring compliance with relevant organisational policies and procedures.

More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Preparing, coordinating and reviewing Government financial reporting requirements;
  • Overseeing all financial functions for the organisation;
  • Coordinating the budget cycle and budget estimates presentations;
  • Assisting with submissions and grants for Community Development and Employment Services;
  • Monitoring expenditure and preparing financial and monthly management reports; and
  • Providing team leadership for the Finance team.

To be considered, you'll have tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Business or Commerce coupled with strong demonstrated experience in Governmental acquittal reporting. You'll also have well developed finance skills including accounting, budgeting and cost control. Importantly, you must have extensive experience using SAP & Attache for financial purposes.

MPREC isn't looking for a 'boss', they need a Leader.  This means it is essential that you have skills and experience providing supervision and support to your team in a changing organisational environment. Your strong time management and prioritisation skills including your ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines will also be essential to your success in the challenging management role. As an experienced Manager with a successful background in providing financial direction, leadership and stewardship, you'll be able to motivate and work as part of a diverse team, with the communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with all team members.

A key responsibility of this role will require you to seek out and secure additional revenue streams so you will need an understanding of, and experience in, identifying funding opportunities as well as applying for Government funding, acquittals and tender submissions. Therefore, you will also need solid knowledge of government reporting and grants application requirements.

It would be an advantage to have a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people. Previous NGO experience and/or an awareness of Cultural Heritage and Language Programs will be highly regarded.   

A current driver's licence is an essential requirement of this position, as is a willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check and a Criminal Records Check before commencing employment.
