About the Organisation

Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre (Biripi ACMC) is a community controlled organisation funded by numerous Agencies and levels of Government. Based in Taree, the Centre delivers a range of services in the region, including preventative programs and management of aged care, medical care, chronic disease care, child health services, oral health services, home nursing services, maternal health services , social, emotional and well being services, sexual health, public health and a range of other family services.

With an annual operating budget of approximately $11 million, supplied through a mixture of grants, funding and self-generated income, Biripi ACMC has in excess of 90 employees and operates around 25 primary health care programs. 

About the Opportunity

Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Executive Officer to lead its professional, multi-disciplinary team, based in Taree, NSW.

Reporting directly to the Biripi ACMC Board of Directors, this varied and rewarding role will see you responsible for the strategic and operational management of the corporation, including staff, finances, assets and other resources.

Through your leadership, you will support managers and their teams to improve health outcomes, productivity and efficiency, whilst effectively management the organisation through a pivotal period of change.

More specifically, your key duties will include:

  • Recommending and implementing improvements to internal control, policies and procedures;
  • Developing a timetable for regular activities, such as reporting, meeting, budgetary, submission and program activities, and ensuring these are carried out within specified timeframes;
  • Ensuring that all relevant advice and assistance is extended to the Biripi ACMC Management Team regarding projects, tenders, contracts and organisational changes;
  • Managing and overseeing all fiscal activities of Biripi ACMC to ensure resources are effectively and efficiently allocated;
  • Providing monthly reports to the Biripi ACMC Board of Directors that includes data for all programs;
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring the annual business plan, ensuring cohesion with the strategic plan and specified KPIs; and
  • Ensuring all organisational activities comply with relevant regulations, legislation, policies and procedures.

To succeed in this position, you'll need extensive senior management experience in a healthcare environment, along with a track record of people, funds and physical asset management. You'll consider yourself a natural leader, with coaching and relationship management experience as well as a demonstrated ability to effectively manage organisational change. A relevant tertiary qualification, in a field such as Management, Health or Business is essential, and candidates with experience leading a multi-modal service organisation will be highly regarded. Aboriginality is desired.

Biripi ACMC is seeking to appoint a transparent, hard-working leader with a high understanding of the Aboriginal health sector, including knowledge of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You'll also have the proven ability to shape strategic thinking, communicate with influence and make sound decisions, whilst achieving results and exemplifying personal drive and integrity. A natural networker and effective relationship builder, you'll be confident in acting as an advocate for Biripi ACMC, at many different professional and community levels, and be able to actively seek out, create and take advantage of strategic, funding and self-funding opportunities as they arise.

Additionally, you will need to truly understand the 'big-picture' of senior management and how strategy, vision and effective change management affects an organisation's activities. A high level of organisational and written communication skills is integral to your success in this.

The successful candidate will be required to travel intrastate and interstate for short periods as necessary. A current driver's licence is therefore essential, and all applicants must be willing to undertake a National Police Check and Working With Children check prior to commencing employment.
