About the Opportunity

Young Shire Council has a rare full-time management opportunity for a Manager (Environment and Public Health Services), based in Young, New South Wales.

Reporting to the Director of Planning, Environment and Strategic Services, you will take a leadership role in the provision of health, environment, waste and ranger services to meet the Council's statutory and community needs.

In this comprehensive role, you will take ownership and responsibility for:

  • Implementing the Council's environmental strategy, including community engagement projects and complaints investigation;
  • Assessing environmental health issues, including those relating to food, water quality, recreational facilities and other health concerns in the Council;
  • Supervising Ranger services;
  • Managing and reviewing waste management systems; and
  • Preparing strategic plans and policy review for the Council.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer, Building Surveyor or similar looking to step into a new and exciting career within local government.

You will require tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (such as Environmental Health, Building Surveying or similar). Experience in food inspection, waste management and environmental protection will ensure you are ready for the variety this opportunity has to offer. A sound knowledge in government legislation, acts and regulations and experience in the local government sector will be highly regarded.

When managing these environment and public health priorities, you will need to utilise efficiency and strong attention to detail as you juggle these important tasks. As an ambassador in the Young community, you will relish in the opportunity to collaborate with other members of your team and community in order to get the job done. A C class drivers license and a willingness to travel is required and the right applicant will be willing to apply for a WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) and Working with Children Check.
