About the Organisation

Diabetes Australia was established in 1984 and is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. The organisation is committed to reducing the impact of all types of diabetes. 

In collaboration with state and territory diabetes organisations and through the administration of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), Diabetes Australia provides practical assistance, information and subsidised products to nearly 1,100,000 Australians diagnosed with diabetes.

About the Opportunity

Diabetes Australia has an exciting opportunity for a full time National Program Officer to join their Canberra team. 

Reporting to the NDSS National Program Manager, you'll be responsible for developing and managing aspects of the National Development Programs and other strategic initiatives including managing small projects, contributing to NDSS policies, procedures and systems and reporting on the results. 

The NDSS is an Australian Government initiative managed by Diabetes Australia to assist people with diabetes to manage their diabetes more effectively. The NDSS programs have committed Government funding of $1 billion over 5 years.

Specific responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Undertaking small projects and contributing to larger projects, including procurement, budget management, overseeing time frames and deliverables and problem solving;
  • Preparing reports and communications to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the policies, procedures and systems; and
  • Coordinating NDSS representation at conferences.

The successful applicant will have experience in project management and preferably have tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline.

As you will be working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, you will require strong written and verbal communication skills, and a flexible and strategic approach to your work. A candidate with the ability to manage priorities, demonstrate high level of attention to detail as well as negotiation and problem solving skills will be highly regarded. Basic financial management skills, with the ability to prepare and monitor budgets, is also important.

You will be a driven individual with a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to continuously improving program outcomes through evidence based practice.

Ideally, you will have an understanding of the health and/or not-for-profit sectors.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package of $65,000 to $75,000 plus superannuation. This package includes the opportunity to avail yourself of salary sacrifice arrangements, and there is occasional travel and conference attendance.
