About the Organisation

Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation is the oldest and largest Aboriginal Resource Agency in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Based in the predominantly Aboriginal town of Fitzroy Crossing, its area of operations extends from Jimbalakadunj community,120 kilometres to the west, to Yiyili community, 170 kilometres to the east.

About the Kimberley Region

The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers approximately 421,000 square kilometres. The area is characterised by large gorges, waterfalls and cave systems, pockets of rainforest and a wide variety of unique wildlife.

The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is around 37,000 - meaning there are fewer people per kilometre in the region than almost any other place on the planet. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra.

The Kimberley has two distinct seasons - the dry and the wet. The dry season (May - October), is characterised by hot, sunny days and warm nights. During the wet season (November - April) the Kimberley experiences heavy but short downpours in the late afternoons, providing a refreshing change to the heat of the day.
