About the Organisation

Nganampa Health Council is a non-government Aboriginal owned and controlled organisation delivering health services to indigenous people living on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (approx 100,000 kilometres sq) in the far north west of South Australia. Across this area, Nganampa Health operates eight clinics, a 16 bed aged care respite facility and assorted health related programs including, sexual health, environmental health, health worker training, dental, women's health, male health, children's health and mental health. Nganampa Health Council is large and well established. Annual turnover exceeds $20m and it has been operating for nearly 30 years.

The health service has a sustained national reputation for best practice clinical services, leading edge collaborative program research and development and for the collection of outcome data as a basis for ongoing evaluation. The organisation's clinics are AGPAL Accredited. About the Opportunity

Nganampa Health Council has an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer to join their team in Alice Springs, NT. 

This role will see you ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Nganampa Health Council Hospital Liaison Team. This will include day-to-day coordination of staff, liaison, advocacy and resource management.

More specifically, your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the hospital liaison team;
  • Making referrals as appropriate to the Health Council's Patient Support Services Social Worker;
  • Ensuring transport and accommodation arrangements are made for patients;
  • Liaising directly with key stakeholders and organising access to secondary/tertiary level facilities; 
  • Ensuring operational statistics are maintained and reported as required;
  • Arranging and participating in team meetings; and
  • Ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the team.

The successful candidate requires a high-level of written and verbal English skills, along with high level problem solving and resource management skills. Maintenance of booking systems, data collection and reporting are part of the role, therefore computer literacy skills are essential. Candidates with Pitjantjatjara language skills will be highly regarded.

Most importantly, Nganampa Health Council is looking for an individual who works well in an Aboriginal community controlled primary health care setting and who has a proven, reliable and relevant work history. This role will require the successful candidate to be flexible regarding working hours, therefore an adaptable approach and 'can-do' attitude is essential. The ability to work well in a team will also be critical to your success.

A vehicle is available for this position, therefore the successful candidate requires a current manual driver's licence. Candidates must be willing to undertake a National Police Check prior to commencing.
