About the Organisation

Childrenfirst is a public limited company by guarantee that provides long day care, occasional care, before and after school, vacation and preschool services in the Blacktown area. They also provide early childhood intervention and support services to centres and families across western Sydney.

The organisation operates out of seven sites, delivers services to 2183 children per year, takes part in over 50 community events in any given year, works in partnership with over 130 local organisations, provides over 1600 training places per year and employs approximately 150 staff (from 29 countries). They have a consolidated revenue of approximately $9M.

Childrenfirst is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of community representatives and parents of children who attend the service and project.

About the Opportunity 

Childrenfirst has an exciting opportunity for a full time Chief Executive Officer to drive strategic development and planning for the entire organisation, based in Blacktown, NSW.

In this executive leadership role, you will be responsible for all aspects of Childrenfirst operations, and ultimately for delivering the strategy and vision of the organisation in collaboration with staff and the Board of Directors. Your focus will be on governance, financial management, business development and funding management.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Leading the executive team in managing staff and delivering services;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating the future direction of Childrenfirst in conjunction with the Board and executive staff;
  • Ensuring growth development occurs and growth targets are met;
  • Developing and maintaining networks and partnerships with other relevant agencies;
  • Monitoring all programs and the organisation's performance against budgets;
  • Identifying opportunities for Childrenfirst to grow, partner with other organisations and develop aspects of service delivery;
  • Managing, supporting, hiring and overseeing professional development for senior staff; and
  • Regularly reviewing funding of all aspects of Childrenfirst, including signing off on financial components of all tenders and funding.

The successful candidate will be a strong networker, with a passion for children, families and the community, and have extensive experience providing leadership and management within community, children or family services or similar community-based organisations. You will hold tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Business Management or similar, and your experience will include strategic planning, budgeting, partnership and networks, funding and collaboration practices. 

You will have a demonstrated understanding of the legal and licensing requirements for operating children services, including Worker's Compensation, Working with Children Checks as well as regulatory and licensing procedures as well as a thorough working knowledge of contract management. Additionally, you should have experience in business development within a not-for-profit or community based context.

This role will also require the successful candidate to display extensive experience in managing a team of staff, preferably a team of senior managers. You will also have experience in managing and implementing budgets across multiple programs and services, and have the capacity to interpret financial reports.
