About the Organisation

Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) was first incorporated in 1989 as the governing representative body for the Spinifex People. It was established to enable the Spinifex people to receive and administer funds to develop infrastructure at Tjuntjuntjara, in remote Western Australia. Since then PTAC has grown to administer the Health Service, the Tjuntjuntjara Community Store, the Women’s Centre, the community Telecentre, the Tjuntjuntjara Community Resource Centre and a range of other programs and infrastructure related projects. PTAC also acts as a local council service provider – managing the RJCP, CDEP and NJCP programs, water, power, sewerage, housing maintenance and community development projects.

About the Tjuntjuntjara Community, WA

The Tjuntjuntjara community is situated 660km north east of Kalgoorlie, approximately 8 hours drive, in the Spinifex region of south-east WA. The community, which falls within the boundaries of the Great Victoria Desert Nature Reserve, has a population of approximately 230 people and was established in 1988. Tjuntjuntjara acts as a service centre for the Ilkulka outstation, with the Ilkulka Roadhouse located along a highway through the Great Victoria Desert. Tjuntjuntjara is an alcohol-free community.

About the Tjuntjuntjara Community Women’s Centre

The Tjuntjuntjara Community Women’s Centre aims to provide a space for women to gather, meet and participate in a range of activities such as health, social issues, child welfare, and more.  It provides a secure space where women can gather and meet to discuss social or other issues.

The Centre is a multi-function facility that is currently hosting the community’s HACC Program, Tjitji Kulurnpa (Mothers and Babies) programs, Good Tucker club, Tjuntjuntjara Café and the op shop.

About the Opportunity

PTAC has a fantastic opportunity for a Women's Centre Coordinator to join its team in Tjuntjuntjara, WA.

Reporting to the PTAC General Manager and Board, you will be responsible for working closely with the HACC Coordinator to ensure that the women's and health programs support each other.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include:

  • Coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Women's Centre, including meetings and art / craft activities;
  • Liaising with women and other community groups to develop and coordinate further programs that encourage healthy lifestyles and education for women;
  • Supporting clear information exchange with the community's women and involving participants in all program development meetings;
  • Ensuring that a broad range of programs are available and establishing a committee focused around program development;
  • Identifying and coordinating training and professional development opportunities for indigenous staff and volunteers, and supervising them in a culturally appropriate way;
  • Administering the requirements of all projects, including reporting to and working under the Coordinator on grant admission of the centre; and
  • Ensuring the Centre is maintained, secure and tidy for program participants.

To be successful, you will have a formal qualification and demonstrated experience in a relevant or similar field involving the coordination/supervision of others. You'll have a demonstrated understanding and the ability to execute tasks such as budgeting and project planning. You'll ideally also have experience in managing a cross-cultural team within an organisation or local government body.

In this leadership role, your strong analytical and problem solving skills will help you inspire a sense of purpose and direction for staff while harnessing information and developing strategies for service delivery. You'll have strong negotiation skills that help you build effective relationships and work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders, across different traditional backgrounds. Additionally, you'll also have excellent oral and written communication skills.

PTAC is seeking a highly professional, organised and driven team-oriented individual, focused on achieving positive outcomes for the Women's Centre. You'll be aided by great conflict resolution and management skills, and enjoy the process of managing tasks and people efficiently.

High level computer skills will be key to your success in this role.

Successful applicants will need to have a current C class driver's licence and a current Federal Police clearance.

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive salary package of $111,704 p.a. This will include a base salary circa $65,020 p.a. plus 9.5% super, plus a fantastic range of benefits including:

  • Relocation assistance;
  • Return airfares after 12 months continuous service for you and dependents onsite;
  • District allowance of $4,333;
  • Generous salary sacrificing options;
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading;
  • 4 weeks annual isolation leave (in lieu of overtime);
  • Monthly telephone and internet allowances of 50$ each;
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities; and
  • Up to 2 weeks in lieu of public holidays worked.

You'll also be able to call the Tjuntjuntjara community home immediately, with furnished accommodation provided at subsidised rent of $40 per week, including utilities.
