About the Organisation

The Gold Coast Medicare Local (GCML) is an independent, not for profit, primary health care organisation. It aims to improve the health and well-being of the Gold Coast community by working in partnership with health and community services such as general practice, allied health, mental health, aged care and youth services.

Medicare Locals have been established across Australia to coordinate and integrate health and community services and to identify local needs and create local strategies in response.

GCML receives funding primarily, but not exclusively, from the Commonwealth Department of Health.

About the Opportunities

GCML has exciting opportunities for experienced Primary Health Care Support Officers to join their team based in Burleigh Waters, Gold Coast.

Reporting to the Primary Health Care Program Manager, you'll be responsible for identifying and responding to local needs with regards to practice support and quality improvements. 

These roles are offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, with hours negotiable for the right candidates.

Specifically, you'll be tasked with:

  • Identifying the health needs of the local community to develop focused and responsive services;
  • Identifying and improving the quality of care to the local community through practice support and liaison with primary health care providers;
  • Providing Help Desk advice regarding medical software, reminder/recall systems, data collection, emerging health and Medicare information, immunisation, chronic disease management, prevention and eHealth; and
  • Facilitating resources and training to health care providers and implementing improved care programs.

To be successful, you will have a high level of experience working in primary health care, particularly in general practice (within the previous 12 months). You'll have demonstrated knowledge in continuous quality improvement activities, in particular those relating to primary health care service provision, immunisation, chronic disease management and eHealth (ePIP requirements, PCeHR and secure messaging). Importantly, you will have the ability to use general practice software and data extraction tools, in particular Pen Computer Systems Clinical Audit Tool (PENCAT).

The ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality and discretion as well as excellent attention to detail and organisational skills will be crucial. You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and thrive under pressure: prioritising tasks, coordinating activities and working within deadlines.

The right candidates will have strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills as well as experience developing innovative solutions and strategies within organisational constraints. You'll also be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

You must have a current driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle to be considered for this role.
