About the Opportunity

Turner Freeman Lawyers have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal/Clerk to join its dust, disease and skin cancer group, working full-time in their Brisbane CBD office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a final year Law student or current Paralegal looking to establish their career.

The firm’s dust disease and skin cancer group investigates and pursues statutory and common law claims for sufferers of skin cancer and asbestos related disease. This involves lodging claims, gathering historical evidence, medical evidence, preparing advice, drafting legal documents and submissions, attending settlement conferences and court hearings.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the firm’s dust disease and skin cancer claims lawyers by preparing a variety of legal documents in support of dust disease claims and skin cancer claims pursued on behalf of our clients. This role will also include the provision of general litigation support.

Specifically, your duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate;
  • Conducting electoral roll and various database searches;
  • Taking instructions and dictating statements from clients and witnesses; and
  • Performing other ad-hoc and supportive duties as required.

Turner Freeman Lawyers is looking for a self-driven candidate who will be able to hit the ground running and eagerly adapt to any challenges of the role. Previous customer service and legal office experience while not essential, will be highly regarded.

You must have excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Outlook, coupled with the ability to conduct legal research as appropriate. In addition you will have the ability to understand, interpret and apply relevant case law and legislation on a case-by-case basis.

You will be flexible in your approach to your workload, adapting to constantly changing and competing priorities, in what can be a high pressure environment. The ability to multi-task to meet deadlines, a high attention to detail, as well as a positive attitude to both internal and external client service will also be essential to succeed in this role. As you will be preparing corporate communication and legal documents as part of your daily duties, strong communication skills are also required.

Turner Freeman Lawyers supports a number of community organisations. Successful candidates will have a sense of community, a volunteer spirit and be prepared to "roll up your sleeves" from time to time to help out in the community.
