About the Organisation

Formed in 1991, Marninwarntikura Fitzroy Women’s Resource Centre is an internationally recognised not-for-profit community organisation offering peace and safety to the women of the Fitzroy Valley in Western Australia. 

The centre is a vocal advocate for the rights and dreams of the women from the area’s four main language groups; Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri and Wangkatjungka, with units ranging from social enterprise initiatives and art therapy to mentoring, child care, health education, community gardening, legal advice and political advocacy.

Through its creative and innovative leadership and effective advocacy for the rights of women, Marninwarntikura has brought together a team of dedicated Indigenous and non-indigenous staff committed to maintaining a resource centre to be a vehicle for change.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Room Leader to join the Marninwarntikura Fitzroy Women's Resource Centre team in Fitzroy Crossing, WA.

In this role you will be responsible for providing educational leadership, staff mentoring, quality improvement and ensuring the legal compliance of the Early Childhood Learning Unit.

Reporting to the Centre Manager, some of your day-to-day duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Encouraging family and community participation in the life of the unit;
  • Implementing education programs and policies;
  • Ensuring regulatory requirements are maintained and working towards continuous improvement; and
  • Ensuring a respectful incorporation of local language, symbols and artwork.

To be successful in this role, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications (diploma or above) in Early Childhood, approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority. You’ll couple this with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar senior position, preferably in long day care service.

Your background in education management will have cemented your ability to build positive relationships with staff, families and the wider community. You will also have a comprehensive understanding of national regulations and quality standards.

Marninwarntikura is seeking applications from candidates who demonstrate a commitment to early intervention and the learning styles of children aged 0-4 years. The children attending the centre are living with a broad spectrum of issues, particularly developmental, making this a challenging yet deeply rewarding role.

You will be required to quickly adapt to changing situations and to demonstrate a resilient and calm demeanour.  An expert approach to managing staff and children will be your best asset as you work to build a positive and nurturing environment for learning.

You’ll confidently use your problem solving and organisational skills in your duties and will use your relationship management experience to effectively liaise with and participate in the community. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation of Indigenous knowledge and a willingness to take guidance from the cultural leaders in the community. 

Additionally, you'll require a current driver's licence and possess (or have the ability to obtain) a Working with Children Check WA.

About the Benefits

For your hard work you will receive an attractive base salary circa $65,000, with the full package valued at circa $80,000. You will also enjoy a range of fantastic benefits, including:

  • 5 weeks annual leave
  • 2 weeks additional remote leave over December/January
