Centacare is one of the largest providers of community services in Queensland, with a range of services including employment services, child care, pastoral ministries, disability services, aged care, family counselling, mental health and programs for people who are marginalised or at risk of homelessness. 

About the Opportunity

Centacare has a fantastic opportunity for a Facilitator to join their Education and Life Skills program based in Townsville, QLD.

In this unique role, you'll primarily be responsible for participating in this federally funded program, which aims to provide life skills, education and training to men, women and children. Through this program, you'll help individuals and families build healthier relationships and participate effectively in civil society.

More specifically, general responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering psycho-educational courses in a variety of contexts to men, women and children in the community and surrounding outreach locations;
  • Working as part of a team using research and best practice frameworks, developing and evaluating programs;
  • Preparation, planning and direct delivery of groups in a variety of settings such as community venues, schools other service centres;
  • Participating in relevant community development and networking activities;
  • Accurately maintaining files and systems, including wait lists, intake processes, data systems and evaluation tools; and
  • Attending and participating in Team Meetings, line management, supervision and peer supervision.

Successful candidates will be degree qualified in Psychology, Social Work or the Behavioural Sciences and possess (or be eligible to obtain) a current Positive Notice for Child Related Employment ("Blue Card" and a yellow card exemption) from the Public Safety Business Agency (PSBA). Candidates with a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment will be highly regarded.

An understanding and working knowledge of family functioning in a broad range of cultural and social contexts is essential. Candidates with experience in counselling, therapeutic groupwork or intensive work with families will be held in high regard. In addition, experience in mental health counselling, welfare, casework or case management will be advantageous, though not essential to the role.

To be successful in this role you will have the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, working collaboratively and co-delivering courses. 

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build strong stakeholder relationships are vital to this role.

Successful candidates will be highly empathetic and proactive professionals with strong negotiation skills. 

A current C Class Driver's Licence is essential to this role as you will be required to travel within a 150 km radius (use of Centacare vehicle provided).
