The centre is a vocal advocate for the rights and dreams of the women from the area’s four main language groups; Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri and Wangkatjungka, with units ranging from social enterprise initiatives and art therapy to mentoring, child care, housing support, health education, community gardening, legal advice and political advocacy.

Through its creative and innovative leadership and effective advocacy for the rights of women, Marninwarntikura has brought together a team of dedicated Indigenous and non-indigenous staff committed to maintaining a resource centre to be a vehicle for change.

About the Opportunity

The Marulu Strategy is an important initiative dedicated to overcoming Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and Early Life Trauma (ELT) across the Fitzroy Valley, including prevention, education and diagnosis as well as lifelong and family support.

To realise this vision, Marninwarntikura Fitzroy Women’s Resource Centre is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead this program as the Marulu Unit Coordinator on a full time basis,  based in Fitzroy Crossing, WA.

Reporting to the CEO, this rewarding position will see you responsible for the successful implementation of this integral service, including developing, coordinating and facilitating integrated programs and services as well as the activities of staff and support workers.

Some of your day-to-day activities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Developing and supporting the "Collaborative Circle of Community Care" model encompassing all aspects of overcoming FASD: prevention, diagnosis and ongoing support;
  • Identifying and developing successful and collaborative partnerships with relevant health/social services and other stakeholders;
  • Maintaining the Marulu Worker Program, including strategies for training and support;
  • Preparing regular Marulu Strategy newsletters and information for radio broadcast and media release; and
  • Identifying service gaps and working to develop new services in response to the changing needs of the community.

Marninwarntikura Fitzroy Women’s Resource Centre is seeking a proven and dynamic leader with demonstrated abilities in coordinating programs and managing staff. The successful candidate will possess a relevant tertiary degree (such as Counselling, Social Work, Community Development or Public Health) and have experience in both government and non-government systems and processes, particularly those related to health and community support.

You'll be a motivated people-person with high-level communication and interpersonal skills, along with a demonstrated awareness of Indigenous Health issues and the ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner. Importantly, you'll be comfortable in communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to leverage opportunities and improve health services in these remote areas.

You will lead by example and use your problem-solving skills and initiative to overcome obstacles in your day-to-day work. The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference within a multi-disciplinary team environment, while continually seeking an original way to improve services and enhance the health and wellbeing outcomes for families in the Fitzroy Valley.

Candidates will need to be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and a Police Clearance. A current unencumbered driver's licence is essential.
