About the Organisation

The Gold Coast Medicare Local (GCML) is an independent, not for profit, primary health care organisation. It aims to improve the health and well-being of the Gold Coast community by working in partnership with health and community services such as general practice, allied health, mental health, aged care and youth services.

Medicare Locals have been established across Australia to coordinate and integrate health and community services and to identify local needs and create local strategies in response.

GCML receives funding primarily, but not exclusively, from the Commonwealth Department of Health.

About Partners in Recovery (PIR)

The Partners in Recovery (PIR) initiative is the collaborative effort of GCML in partnership with other service providers. The ultimate objective of the initiative is to improve the system response to, and outcomes for people living with severe and persistent mental illness.

PIR aims to better support people with a lived experience of severe and persistent mental illness with complex needs, and their carers and families, by working in a more collaborative, coordinated, and integrated way with services the person may need. PIR will facilitate streamlined access to the clinical and other service and support needs of people experiencing severe and persistent mental illness with complex needs,  and support improved coordination of multi-agency response. There are a number of sectors central to the success of this initiative, but not limited to – primary care (health and mental health), the state and territory specialist mental health systems, the mental health and broader non-government sector, carer supports, alcohol and other drug treatment services, income support services, as well as education, employment and housing supports. PIR will support the multiā€service integration and coordination needed to ensure services and supports are matched to people’s needs.

About the Opportunity

Due to the establishment of the PIR initiative, there is currently an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Project Officer to join the team on the Gold Coast. 

Reporting to the PIR Program Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of PIR projects to effectively achieve results in system change initiatives.

This role is offered on a full-time basis.

Your duties will include (but will not be limited to)

  • Developing and delivering PIR projects and achieving system change initiatives;
  • Developing and managing projects and reporting requirements to effectively achieve results for addressing gaps and barriers;
  • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders to improve existing services and to implement new systems;
  • Ensuring all systems and services are aligned with GCML quality practices;
  • Assisting with project reporting and coordination of communication strategies; and
  • Providing secretariat support to governance groups.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australia's health care system, particularly areas that relate to primary health care service provision, or the demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge. You'll also have the ability to assist with planning and managing projects to effectively achieve results, using standard project management techniques.

Your ability to think conceptually, analyse issues and develop innovative solutions and strategies will be utilised constantly, as will your partnership development and highly effective negotiation and networking skills. Importantly, you will have a demonstrated ability to engage with people and a willingness to share experiences and information using appropriate boundary setting strategies.

A proactive and highly organised individual, you'll be able to work both autonomously as well as part of a team. Additionally, you will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess solid computer literacy skills.
