About the Organisation

Domestic Violence NSW Service Management (DVSM) is state-wide provider of specialist homelessness services with a focus on domestic and family violence. The DVSM service model places the client at the centre and focuses on facilitating individualised and coordinated service responses.

The Wilcannia Safe House provides a service for women and children escaping family and domestic violence. We offer emergency overnight accommodation, crisis accommodation, transition and exit housing. In addition, we operate significant community support services, running a range of groups catering to the different needs in the local community. We also collaborate with other service providers and organise activities to build capacity within the community.

About the Opportunity

DVSM has an opportunity for someone looking to make a difference to women and children escaping domestic violence to join their team as a Team Leader / Senior Case Worker available in Wilcannia, in western NSW, on a fixed term contract to 30th November 2015, with the potential for extension dependent on funding (full-time hours).

Working closely with the Service Manager you will assist in running the day-to-day operations of the Safe House while also providing supervision, support, and guidance to a team of Case Workers, encouraging the development of quality service provision and professional development.

Your other responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Managing a small case load of your own clients;
  • Designing and running group programs based on local needs;
  • Providing comprehensive assessment and safety planning for at risk individuals;
  • Detailed case planning and coordination of a range of support needs; and
  • On-going support to clients until all needs have been met.

You will be passionate about making a difference to people’s lives, demonstrating empathy, flexibility and responsiveness.  In addition, you will possess a diploma-level qualification in a relevant community service discipline and have considerable experience as a case worker in the social services sector. Your experience in designing and facilitating groups will be beneficial and you will possess intermediate computer skills.

A natural leader, you'll be able to coach and mentor others, and will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to support this. You will be able to demonstrate your problem solving and analytical skills and be able to apply these to the unique needs and challenges of this remote community. Experience in working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous culture would be highly regarded as would degree-level qualifications.

A current driver's licence and Working With Children check is required for this role and employment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Check.
