About the Opportunity

Due to internal promotions, Samuel Smith & Son are looking for a passionate and dedicated Commercial Manager to join the team at their offices in Alexandria, NSW. This is a rare opportunity to become part of one of Australia's leading names in wine, with an outstanding reputation at home and abroad. 

In this role you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial performance of Samuel Smith & Son and providing strategic advice and support to the State Manager and Sales Managers.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Reviewing daily sales reports and investigating and reporting on margin variances;
  • Work with the management team to drive strategic initiatives and change throughout the business;
  • Conducting brand and market analysis, and preparing management reports on performance;
  • Ensuring Customer Service staff are adequately trained and providing the highest level of customer service;
  • Working with the Warehouse Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the warehouse;
  • Manage and oversee the performance of the sales support and administration staff;
  • Managing branch expenses and reviewing branch profit & loss and management reports; and
  • Provide operational management of the branch.

To be considered for this role you will have demonstrated experience managing diverse business functions and have strongly developed financial management skills. You will be able to effectively monitor and develop budgets, P&Ls and financial plans at a high level. Your excellent business acumen will allow you to manage a range of business activities, and your analytic and strategic thinking will allow you to identify emerging trends in the business and marketplace. Previous experience working in a commercial management role would be beneficial, but is not essential.

With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will be able to build strong relationships within the business and effectively lead and manage a large team. Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate experience in leading and managing change within an organisation, and will be dedicated to driving a high performance culture.

Importantly, you will have a strong customer focus, and be willing to go the extra mile to ensure customer needs are not just met, but exceeded. As a strong team player, you will be able to collaborate well in your work, and will be open and approachable in how you interact with your team and tackle your work. 

Experience in the wine industry would be beneficial, but not essential. You will have a general interest in wine and an intense desire to be part of this rewarding industry and the Samuel Smith & Son family.
