Lock the Gate Alliance is one of the fastest growing social movements in Australia.  It is a unique national alliance of farmers, indigenous Traditional Custodians, environmental and urban residents. The Alliance is dedicated to protecting land, water and communities from unsafe coal and unconventional gas mining. Its aim to defend the health and well-being of all Australians through community education and empowering local residents.

About the Opportunity

The Lock The Gate Alliance is looking for a Community Coordinator (Queensland) to join their team working from the Brisbane offices or choose to work from home! In this role you will be coordinating the alliance campaigns to raise awareness of the impacts of coal and gas mining in Queensland. In particular you will be responsible for active engagement with the wider Brisbane community and the active recruitment and management of volunteers.

Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Contributing to direct advocacy on policy matters;
  • Facilitating state-wide internal communications and meetings;
  • Supporting regional campaigners to deliver regional outcomes;
  • Organising campaign events in key Brisbane locations;
  • Implementing agreed urban engagement strategies in Brisbane; and
  • Acting as spokesperson for the campaigns.

To be considered for this role you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, manage and inspire a team of dedicated volunteers in grass roots campaigns and regional campaigns. You will be able to demonstrate experience in management or human resources with an understanding of project management processes. Ideally you will have experience in community mobilisation, and campaign planing and management, but this is not essential for this role.

As a flexible, creative, and resourceful person, you will be able to rapidly adapt to the organisation and its diverse roles and units. A dedicated campaigner, you will be able to show you passion for our land and water resources. With a small, dedicated team your strong team work and collaboration skills will be important.
