Since its inception in 1986, Carnarvon Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (CMSAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) that has aimed to provide holistic primary and secondary health and medical services to the Aboriginal people of Carnarvon and the surrounding areas.

About the Opportunity

CMSAC has a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Aboriginal Health Worker to join their dedicated team in Carnarvon, WA.

Reporting to the Clinic Manager, you will be responsible for providing clinical screening and treatment to clients while assisting in ensuring clients are informed about their conditions and treatments. Additionally, you will be responsible for helping implementing and managing care plans for chronic health issues, particularly in regards to follow up reviews.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Participating, as part of a team, in the daily activities of the clinic;
  • Assisting in the screening and management of clients presenting with chronic health issues;
  • Developing and distributing community educational resources and conducting information sessions with community members;
  • Assisting Child Health Nurses with home visits;
  • Triaging clients who present to the clinic and conducting health assessments of patients;
  • Collaborating with Indigenous and non-Indigenous Service providers and other allied health professionals to provide quality care to clients; and
  • Maintaining accurate medical documentation on client visits.

CMSAC is looking for a passionate, dedicated individual with demonstrated clinical experience as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner. Essentially, you will posses a Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care and will be registered with AHPRA as a registered Aboriginal Health Practitioner. You will be able to demonstrate your clinical skills and ability to assist in providing treatment to clients.

As a strong communicator, you will be able to work well within a team and with a diverse range of patients. Additionally, your passion for improving Aboriginal health, and empathy towards your patients, will see you able to develop and maintain strong relationships, particularly as it relates to long-term management and care of chronic health problems.

With sound computer skills, you will ideally have experience with Medical Director or similar practice management software, although this is not essential for the role. Your flexible nature and professional attitude will see you able to adapt to a varied work environment while maintaining the highest levels of care to your patients.

Importantly, you will posses, or be willing to obtain, both a Working With Children check and a First Aid Certificate. A current class A driver's licence with an F endorsement is also required for this role.
