NQ Community Services Inc (NQCS) is a not-for-profit, community based organisation that provides services to Townsville and the wider communities. These services enhance the quality of life of families and individuals. NQCS provide a wide range of activities, programs, and services within its available resources to meet current community needs through the principle of self-help,  and  in partnership with  Government  and non-government organisations. 

Along with the operation of Upper Ross Community Centre and the Townsville Regional Community Visitors’ Scheme Program, NQCS also runs a self-funded Outside School Hours service (OSHC) for school children. This service, based in Annandale, is very well supported with 100 children attending each day. Children are occupied doing various activities, some of which include planned and unplanned learning, board games, and sport. A full-time Vacation Care program is also provided.

About the Opportunity

NQCS now has an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Assistant Director to join their team in Annandale. This is a part time role of approximately 35 hours a week, with working hours from 6:45am - 9:15am and 1:15pm - 6:15pm. You will also be required to work on a limited, rotating roster during school holidays.

Reporting directly to the NQCS CEO, you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the day to day operations and staffing of the Outside School Hours service.

More specifically, some of your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing reports to management on the operation of the service;
  • Overseeing development of the programs that the service provides;
  • Ensuring all relevant records are maintained properly;
  • Liasing with parents about their children;
  • Having awareness of budget requirements and ensuring compliance;
  • Recognising changing community needs and reporting recommendations on these;
  • Ensuring adequate systems and procedures are in place to provide for challenging times; and
  • Maintaining confidentiality in dealing with families and staff on sensitive issues, and ensuring staff are also trained in this.

As the new OSHC Assistant Director, preferably you will have an Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services or equivalent, however a Diploma of Children’s Services will also be accepted. It is essential you have experience working with children in the child care industry. Additionally, demonstrated management experience in the child care industry will be highly regarded. Your proven ability to manage and provide support to staff, give clear direction, and model best practice in managing children to staff will be key to this role. Demonstrated ability to implement changes in the workplace is also vital.

This role requires a self-starter who is able to juggle multiple tasks and is disciplined in their work. Although you will need to be independent, this role will also see you engaging in team work and actively participating in staff meetings. As such, you should have well developed interpersonal skills and enjoy working collaboratively with others.

Please note: This position requires possession of a Working with Children (Blue Card) or ability to acquire one.
