About the Opportunity

NSS has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Environmental Coordinator to join its dedicated team in Townsville, QLD. Initially this role will be on a 12 month contract, with the possibility of extending to a permanent position.

Reporting to the Business Support Manager, this key role will see you responsible for assisting with the planning, development and implementation of all environmental activities and programs. 

Some of your more specific duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Preparing and lodging annual reports;
  • Overseeing the technical aspect of the operations (i.e. air and water monitoring) and developing recording systems to capture results;
  • Assisting in the implementation of the NSS Environmental Management System and relevant environmental legislative requirements;
  • Providing environmental support in order to meet environmental commitments and obligations;
  • Making amendments to existing Site Based Management Plans as required;
  • Liaising with external stakeholders, departments and government agencies;
  • Preparing tender documents and managing various external consultants for provision of expert reports;
  • Facilitating Third Party Compliance Audits of NSS operations;
  • Compiling annual monitoring reports for lodgement; and
  • Supporting and monitoring any environmental incidents and ensuring that they are adequately reported and investigated.

This role requires an individual with tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science. A comprehensive knowledge of the assessment of local government planning schemes and legislation (particularly state and commonwealth) is also highly regarded.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in the preparation of Site Based Management Plans and other construction/operational management plans that may be relevant. NSS also requires the successful individual to be familiar with relevant standards, codes, legislation and statutory requirements. Although not essential, experience with projects similar to those of NSS operations, such as logistics or warehousing, would be highly regarded. 

As the new Environmental Advisor, it is key you have exceptional interpersonal skills, allowing you to work collaboratively with others. However, it is also essential that you have the ability to work independently. You will be innovative, with strong initiative and a high level of maturity.

You will have excellent written communication skills in order to prepare clear and accurate technical reports. Your verbal communication skills will be just as strong, as you will be interacting with all NSS business units.

Please Note: A current driver's licence and a Maritime Security Identification Card (or the ability to pass a police clearance to obtain one) is essential to the role.
