About the Opportunity

Balonne Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a Community and Business Support Officer to join their team in St George, QLD.

Reporting to the Director - Community and Environment, you will be primarily responsible for assisting in the delivery of community and business support services.

More specifically, some of your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Consulting with community and business sectors about their goals and vision;
  • Undertaking business and community research and analysis;
  • Developing and supporting relationships with business, community, other government and partner organisations to promote the economic and community sustainability of the Shire;
  • Preparing reports for Council and other Officers, and managing correspondence and day-to-day administration;
  • Writing submissions for funding relating to economic and community development; and
  • Delivering and assisting in the delivery of key community events.

Balonne Shire Council is looking for a candidate who holds relevant tertiary qualifications, however individuals with extensive relevant experience may also be considered. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of community or economic development will also be required for this role. Although not essential, knowledge of the local government environment would be beneficial.

Your experience in consultation and facilitation with businesses or communities will be key to your success, as will your ability to perform research and analysis in these areas. Your exceptional interpersonal skills will allow you to liaise with clients of all levels and work collaboratively with other staff members. Excellent communication skills will also come in handy when preparing funding submissions and project reports.

As you will often be working independently, it is important you be a driven, self-motivated individual who is able to set goals and achieve them on a daily basis.

Please Note: This position requires a current Queensland "C" Class Driver's License.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will receive an attractive base salary circa $66,693 - $68,989 plus super (9.25% on commencement, moving to 6% employee and 12% employer after 12 months).

  • Optional 19 day month; and
  • Locality allowance of $972 without dependents or $1945 with dependents per annum.
