The organisation has been providing drug and alcohol treatment programs for over 35 years. They cover a range of treatment and workforce sector development services and activities through funded programs and service level partnerships.

About the Murdi Paaki Drug and Alcohol Network (MPDAN)

The MPDAN is a partnership between The Lyndon Community, Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation, Bourke Aboriginal Health Service, Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service and Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service.  Each partner receives funding from the Office of Prime Minister and Cabinet to reduce the harm done by substance use and misuse to Aboriginal Communities. The Network aims to improve access to specialist drug and alcohol treatment services and to support primary health care services in the region to provide evidence based and culturally appropriate community development, promotion, prevention, early intervention, treatment and care.

About the Opportunity

The Lyndon Community now has an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Senior Clinician to join their team in Orange, NSW. This is a 3 year funded position with the ability to extend subject to further funding.

Working closely with the Program Manager and reporting to the Deputy CEO, you will play a critical role in developing the availability and accessibility of D&A services to the MPDAN and surrounding regions. You will do this by delivering training, supervision and consultancy services to network sites, particularly to primary health staff and other non D&A specialist positions.

More specifically, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing regional workers with monthly practice and/or clinical supervision;
  • Establish and facilitate monthly clinical reviews;
  • Organising and/or providing training for staff of local services for early detection and management of substance misuse;
  • Mentoring and supporting Network staff in their day to day assessment and care of Aboriginal people with substance use disorders, including providing consultancy on individual cases and videoconferencing support;
  • Mentor and supervise students, trainees and staff on placement with the clinical hub; and
  • Providing statistics, reports and information as required by key stakeholders, managers, and funding bodies.

The Lyndon Community is seeking an applicant who holds tertiary qualifications in a health or welfare discipline. A demonstrated background in drug and alcohol service delivery will be key to this role. Proven experience working with Aboriginal organisations and communities would also be beneficial.

Well developed interpersonal skills will allow you to develop relationships and work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary, cross-agency and cross-cultural team. You will need to be flexible in your approach to your work, managing competing priorities with sound judgement and organisation.

The new Drug and Alcohol Health Promotion Worker will be caring, empathetic individuals with a passion and desire to help their community. However, the ability to be assertive when needed will also be necessary for these roles. It is essential you be ethical and professional when working with all individuals and communities. Importantly, you will hold a commitment to reflective, client centered practice and evaluation and research.
