About the Organisation

Alzheimer's Australia National Office is a national peak body providing support and advocacy for the 342,800 Australians living with dementia. The organisation offers a vast network of support groups around Australia, confidential counselling, workshops and information sessions.

Established in 1997, Alzheimer's Australia has developed as a centre of excellence in dementia support services for people with memory loss, their families and the professional staff who care for them. To increase community acceptance and understanding of dementia, the organisation also provides general education programs through seminars and courses designed to promote public awareness. Additionally, Alzheimer's Australia advocates for better services through political lobbying and monitoring of government policies and legislation.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, this pivotal role is responsible for managing a small team of marketing and communication professionals to develop and deliver communication strategies, media management, fundraising, issues and events management, and public relations which protect and promote Alzheimer’s Australia’s National Office (AANO) brand and reputation and to position the organisation as a respected national leader on dementia. Additionally, you'll be responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategic objectives and aims.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Formulating and implementing comprehensive media, communication and marketing strategies;
  • Generating media coverage through identifying key speaking engagements and public relations opportunities;
  • Working closely with the AANO’s media partners to ensure editorial opportunities are leveraged;
  • Developing communications supporting brand development and enhancement;
  • Establishing and maintaining innovative and mutually beneficial national, state and territory partnerships;
  • Undertaking market research and customer surveys to analyse demand and brand positioning; and
  • Supporting the development and implementation of AANO’s fundraising strategy.

To be considered for this role, you will possess tertiary qualifications in public relations, marketing, communications or a related discipline, and will have significant demonstrated experience leading and managing marketing and communication teams. You'll be able to demonstrate your experience in developing and implementing effective marketing, communications, media and public relations strategies.

With a finely developed ability to traverse complex environments and provide clear direction and consistent messaging, and the ability to work within a highly complex, and rapidly changing political landscape, you'll be able to drive a consistent message and leverage opportunities for AANO across a broad spectrum of media channels.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to forge strong and lasting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Your eye for detail and excellent organisational skills will ensure you provide high-quality service delivery and support in a complex environment.

Prior experience working within a not-for-profit organisation would be highly regarded, as would experience with desktop publishing (InDesign) and website content management systems. Ideally you will have a solid understanding of policies and issues relevant to health reforms (dementia and age care) in Australia, although this is not essential for the role.

As a highly motivated self-starter with excellent organisational and time-management skills, you will be able to take the initiative in driving new projects and work well under pressure.

Importantly, you'll possess excellent negotiation and relationship management skills, and will be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity to grow an established organisation's array of programs while enjoying the immense job satisfaction that arises benefiting the wider community.

Working within a progressive environment, you will get to make a direct impact on the health outcomes of Australians everywhere.

Your hard work, and unwavering commitment to improving the organisation's programs, will be rewarded with a competitive remuneration comprising of $130,000 - $150,000. Salary sacrificing options are available as well to increase your take home pay.

This is an extremely satisfying and rewarding role, and you will finish each working day knowing you have improved the lives of people living with dementia, and those who care for them, whilst nurturing the members of a great team - Apply now!

Please note, applications for this role close at 5pm, 29th of May, 2015
