Your Future Role with Souris Valley Paving

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to manage civil construction projects and divisional operations in Estevan, Saskatchewan.

In this role, you will provide top-level support and ensure that work is performed in accordance with sound operating principles, company policies and procedures, and meet the strategic objectives of the company. 

As an integral member of our leadership team, your primary responsibilities will include:  

  • Planning, controlling and monitoring projects, as well as directing resources to best meet project objectives; 
  • Conducting weekly reviews with Managers and Superintendents to ensure project scope, time, costs and budgets are being achieved; 
  • Administering contract agreements and ensuring all obligations are met before project kickoff; 
  • Overseeing, navigating and resolving conflict disputes within the project; 
  • Monitoring and managing cash flow and receivables; 
  • Preparing and reviewing project estimates and construction tenders; 
  • Ensuring all objectives are reached to achieve contract completion and final acceptance certificates; 
  • Securing and executing project administrative documents, such as Final Bonds, Insurance and Sub-contract agreements; 
  • Troubleshooting project concerns such as bad weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labour issues, contractor and/or client concerns and other unforeseeable matters; 
  • Examining engineering reports to ensure quality control requirements are met and applying appropriate corrective action, when necessary; 
  • Working closely with Managers providing employees with the tools and resources needed to resolve project issues; 
  • Ensuring solid understanding of, and compliance with, the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics; 
  • Meeting with onsite staff to discuss daily progress and project issues and inspecting project work site for any issues or concerns; 
  • Attending and participating in onsite meetings with clients, owners, representatives, staff, sub trades, contractors, and other project stakeholders;
  • Reviewing and assessing work completed to ensure schedules are maintained;
  • Promoting, executing and adhering to the company’s safety program, and encouraging all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture;
  • Working with the Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the work site, and ensuring proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program;
  • Working in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the well-being of others;
  • Determining staffing requirements and interviewing, hiring and/or training employees; 
  • Complying with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations and resignations; 
  • Handling all employee concerns; investigating concerns and questions ensuring all concerns are followed through from beginning to end; 
  • Liaising with the Human Resource department on a variety of employee-related issues, including employee development, recruitment, benefits, training, terminations, and investigations; and 
  • Other duties, as assigned. 

To qualify for this dynamic and challenging role, you will have at least 5 years of project management experience, as well as 5 years of estimating experience. 

The successful candidate will also have a Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution. A Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) designation and/or a P.Eng. designation is an asset. 

A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is essential.

With comprehensive mathematical skills and proficiency with the MS Office, you will demonstrate a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and accountability.

The ability to multi-task and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and milestones is essential for success in this role. 

With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will work well in a team environment and possess the ability to supervise, motivate and support others. You will also use your analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts in an effective and timely manner. 

Physically fit, you will be capable of lifting at least 10 lbs on a regular basis and must also comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
