The Boyer Mill, located on the Derwent River, 36 km from Hobart, is a major contributor to the Tasmanian economy and distributes its paper to every Australian state and territory.

About the Opportunity

Norske Skog has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team at the Boyer Mill in New Norfolk, TAS.

This is a senior role which focuses on Mechanical Engineering. You will primarily be responsible for providing specialised technical support to improve process and equipment reliability and performance. Additionally, you'll be responsible for ensuring optimal and cost effective use of all maintenance resources.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Providing leadership, support and hands on assistance for maintenance activities (projects, shuts, start up, breakdowns, planning, budgeting and target setting)
  • Providing specialist technical skills and analysis to lead / support effective problem solving to improve reliability and productivity
  • Manage performance (including training, development and leave) of people in the Mechanical Engineering team
  • Manage, supervise and coordinate delivery of capital programmes for assigned area focussing on delivering value and quality to customers, by achieving agreed scope, schedule and budget
  • Identify and manage Opportunity for Improvements (OFI’s) which provide for plant / process performance and cost optimisation
  • Ensure standardisation of plant and procedures across the business based on best practice maintenance, engineering and occupational health and safety guidelines
  • Ensure relevant engineering standards and procedures are complied with in all maintenance activities

To be considered for this role, you will possess tertiary qualifications in a relevant Engineering or technical field. You will have a solid understanding of, and proven experience with engineering performance, ideally within a continuous heavy manufacturing environment. You will excel at project delivery and be a proactive leader in maintenance reliability strategies. You will have structured problem solving skills and excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise, plan, implement and finalise work.

Importantly, you'll have a thorough understanding and knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards. You will also have experience in material selection and application to various situations and environments.
