Alzheimer's Australia National Office is a national peak body providing support and advocacy for the 342,800 Australians living with dementia. The organisation offers a vast network of support groups around Australia, confidential counselling, workshops and information sessions.

Alzheimer's Australia has developed as a centre of excellence in dementia support services for people with memory loss, their families and the professional staff who care for them. To increase community acceptance and understanding of dementia, the organisation also provides information and awareness services, helpline services and general education programs to promote public awareness. About the Opportunity

Alzheimer's Australia National Office has a rewarding opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Policy & Research Officer to join their team in Barton, Canberra, ACT.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Policy and Programs and Research, this role is responsible for assisting with the research, policy and advocacy work of Alzheimer’s Australia National Office.  This includes contributing to policy and submission development, contributing to research projects and managing projects.

Your main responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Contributing to policy development and advocacy of Alzheimer’s Australia National Office;
  • Gathering data and evidence to support policy development, submissions and research;
  • Coordinating projects related to policy development;
  • Liaising with other stakeholders and advocacy organisations;
  • Working closely with consumers to ensure that policy development is consumer driven;
  • Representing Alzheimer’s Australia National Office at meetings and conferences; and
  • Providing assistance in drafting funding submissions, reports, presentations and speeches.

To be considered for this position, you will hold tertiary qualifications in nursing, medical science, public policy, psychology or a similar, related field. You will be able to show your commitment to constant learning in the areas of dementia, and dementia care, and ideally will have a background working with these issues.

You'll possess well developed research skills, with the ability to undertake literature reviews and other research methodologies. Along side this you will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to prepare reports and submissions. Additionally, you will have excellent interpersonal skills, and will be able to work collaboratively as a part of a diverse team.

Ideally, you will have experience working in a small team environment with a community based organisation, as well as having previous experience in a policy and project management role.
