About the Opportunity

Mercury Marine currently has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven Sales & Applications Technician to join their team based in Auckland, NZ. 

Reporting to the NZ Manager, you're key duties will be providing application and technical assistance to dealers/OEM service networks for MerCruiser products. Further to this, you will be responsible for product promotion, as well as conducting service, application and sales training courses to inform our dealers about our products and maximise potential sales.

In this varied role, some of your key duties will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Making regular contact with new and existing customers to increase new business prospects ;
  • Diagnosis and resolution of product failures;
  • Representing the company at boat shows or conferences;
  • Assisting and instructing dealers with technical issues relating to the installation, service and maintenance of MerCruiser products; and
  • Parts interpretation, conducting sea trials and routine reporting.

Mercury are looking for a Trade Certified Marine Technician or a Sales Guru with a strong technical aptitude or previous MerCruiser experience. This strong technical background will equip you with the confidence to adapt to the sales aspect of this role, allowing you to effectively promote our product range. You will be deeply interested in marine products, with a background knowledge in Mercury products preferred, but not mandatory. 

As domestic travel makes up a large part of this position, you will possess a demonstrated ability to work autonomously and will be capable of organising rapidly changing work tasks to achieve strategic goals. There will be a very limited amount of international travel also associated with this role, meaning it is also essential that you hold a Class 1 NZ Driver's License and current passport to be considered for the position.

You'll be a driven self-starter, who isn't afraid to 'get in and work hands-on' when demonstrating solutions to dealers. You will be a naturally confident 'people person' who can quickly build rapport and form lasting relationships.

Computer literacy skills in Lotus Notes and basic Microsoft Suite would also be considered highly advantageous for the position.
