About the Organisation
The Lyndon Community is a non-government organisation based in Orange that has been providing alcohol and other drug treatment in residential and non-residential programs for the last 25 years.
The Lyndon Community includes a range of programs that provide a broad range of educational, intervention, counselling and support services for their target group:
- The Lyndon Therapeutic Community (LTC)
- The Lyndon Withdrawal Unit (LWU)
- The Lyndon Community Outreach Service (LOS)
- The Lyndon Research Program (LRP)

About the Wandarma Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Service
The Wandarma Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Service is a program run by the Lyndon Community, working in partnership with Aboriginal communities and service providers on the far south coast of NSW. The program is designed to deliver culturally appropriate drug and alcohol services and support to Aboriginal communities in the Far South Coast region of NSW, from Wallaga Lake down to Eden.
About the Opportunity
The Lyndon Community has a fantastic opportunity for a full time Female Aboriginal AOD Worker to join the Wandarma Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Service team in Bega.
Reporting to the Program Manager, you will deliver drug and alcohol services and programs to Aboriginal individuals, families, groups and communities on the south coast.
More specifically, you will be required to:
- Provide culturally appropriate assessment, referral, counselling and group work to clients;
- Work collaboratively with external service providers to provide seamless service delivery and support to clients during residential rehabilitation and return to Community;
- Document casework and report to management;
- Support the development of culturally appropriate and effective local programs to minimise the harm done by alcohol and other drug use to Aboriginal Communities;
- Provide education to members of the Aboriginal Community on alcohol and other drug issues; and
- Facilitate access to culturally appropriate drug and alcohol resources and programs.
To be successful, you will hold a minimum of a Certificate IV or relevant qualifications in a health or welfare discipline, or be willing to undertake further study. You will have experience delivering culturally appropriate drug and alcohol services. A strong knowledge and connection to South Coast Aboriginal communities will be an advantage but not essential.
The Lyndon Community is seeking a personable, problem solving and flexible applicant with an understanding of service delivery approaches for clients with co-existing mental health and substance use issues. You will need exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), the ability to work with a broad and diverse range of people, and a high level of computer literacy.
The role may involve travel around the Bega region, so a current driver's licence is required. Your hours will generally be between 8.30am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, with the need for flexibility when required.
Due to the nature of this role, applicants are required to be female and of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
