Living Simply was founded in 1980 in Canberra and quickly grew from a small boutique business into a full service company, covering retail through to landscape design & build, complete with an indoor/outdoor plant-rental and short-term event hire service.
The completely, integrated company in Pialligo, ACT is located just 10 minutes from the Canberra city centre and employs 20 staff. The retail home & garden store has a strong design emphasis and caters to the inner-city courtyard gardener, offering a wide variety of indoor & outdoor plants, pottery & water features and garden furniture-all complete with a garden design and consultancy service.
About the Opportunity
Living Simply has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Business Development Manager to assist the existing management team to grow and develop their retail store and service offering from Pialligo, A.C.T. This role sits within the home and garden retail department, and includes a rotating roster including weekend work, however the position still only requires a 40 hour work week.
In order to support your development in growing into this position, you will initially be involved in the retail department. You'll work alongside the Retail Manager to ensure a good sense of visual presentation within the store, the product selection and the product purchasing. This will help you get to know the product and understand the business.
This is not a fast paced sales role, you will thrive in this position by integrating into the team and learning about the business products and offerings in order to develop and determine new revenue streams for the business. You'll be meeting sales targets and delivering on store profitability but you'll have the full support of the business owner and the existing Sales Manager.
You'll have strong business acumen and be driven to succeed. In addition, you'll be driven and goal orientated and have a high attention to detail.
This role will be focused on generating additional business through the short term special-event hire part of the business. You'll be able to leverage off an existing client base of over 500 long term clients as well as learn the sales and business development techniques that has seen the business grow organically!
When you're not following up on new leads, or promoting the product at conferences or events, you'll be helping out in the day-to-day running of the retail store.
In this varied role, you'll be a strong communicator who is able to give clear directions and be an enthusiastic "people person" who can listen to the needs of customers and build strong relationships with clients, staff and management alike.
