About the Opportunities

Hazell Bros is seeking experienced civil construction professionals to join our team in Hobart

With multiple civil projects in the pipeline for Tasmania, we are seeking  full-time Project Managers and Project Engineers to help foster our growth in the industry.  

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working on a wide range of civil infrastructure projects including earthworks, road works, pavements, structural concrete, bridge-building, traffic management and demolition work.  Candidates should have sound working knowledge of the Tasmanian construction industry.  

You will be a great fit for our team if you are an approachable team player who is also agile and adaptable to change. Working in a fast-paced team environment, you must be highly organised with the ability to manage your time and priorities. Most importantly, you must possess strong interpersonal skills and be confident in your ability to interact and communicate effectively with all staff and stakeholders.  

A comprehensive knowledge of safety, quality and environmental standards and practices is considered an asset.

Project Managers

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects, from conception to final completion. In addition, you will provide clear leadership and management of the project team. 

Primary duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Create and promote a culture of workplace safety;   
  • Manage project activities to ensure that delivery is in compliance with all contractual requirements; 
  • Approve project expenditure and management costs, in line with budgets;  
  • Maintain understanding of customer requirements and expectations and provide accurate and timely communications; 
  • Provide support to the project team, including the provision of feedback and reporting and resolving any employee relation issues;
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the client, community and a variety of stakeholders; and 
  • Ensure all project policies, procedures and standards are adhered to, including safety, environment and quality plans.  

To qualify for this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management. With at least seven years' experience in the civil construction industry, you will have proven experience working on major civil infrastructure projects (upwards of $15 million). Membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust) is highly desirable.

Project Engineers 

As a Project Engineer, you will work as part of a team to ensure that each project is managed in a safe, effective and efficient manner. Reporting to the Construction Manager or Project Manager, you will actively assist in the successful delivery of projects, from conception through to final completion. 

Primary duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Create and promote a culture of workplace safety;   
  • Supervise onsite project activities, including the management of resources and subcontractors;  
  • Assess optimal workloads and manage staff resource requirements;
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and maximise project opportunities; 
  • Liaise with the project team to ensure effective communication and key deadlines and standards are met;
  • Ensure all project policies, procedures and standards are adhered to, including safety, environment and quality plans; and 
  • Provide feedback and relevant reporting to management, as required.  

To qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil) and at least two years' experience in the civil construction industry. Specifically, you will have demonstrated hands-on, site-based experience working on a variety of civil infrastructure projects.

Registration (or eligibility for registration) with Engineers Australia (MIEAust) is highly desirable. A Diploma in Project Management, along with a sound knowledge of risk management, in the areas of safety, quality, finance and environment, would be advantageous.

About the Benefits

In exchange for your hard work and dedication, successful candidates will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation assistance is negotiable. 

As a Project Manager, you will receive a salary package of $100,000-$145,000 + Super, inclusive of a vehicle. A phone and laptop will also be provided.  

As a Project Engineer, you will receive a salary of $70,000-$110,000 + Super, phone, laptop. A vehicle may be negotiated.
