About the Opportunity

TDB has a great opportunity for an experienced Forestry Technician, Field Supervisor to join our team in Prince George, BC.

In this key role, you will ensure that the field crew executes the daily work plan, meets performance targets and results, follows all company policies and procedures and submits all paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. You will also participate in land navigation, data collection and recording. 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:  

  • Performing field duties, including: timber cruising, field cruise mapping, block layout, GPS traversing, boundary painting, road location, road traverse, stream assessment, riparian assessment, windthrow hazard assessments and collection of Eco data and field photos; 
  • Documenting production, safety and all other field work;  
  • Ensuring that the field crew has all the required equipment to complete their job and leaves to work on time;
  • Assigning equipment to field crew members and ensures that each member has a daily job assignment and production target; 
  • Conducting quality checks and providing feedback for quality improvements; 
  • Coaching and mentoring all field crew members; 
  • Other duties, as required.

 As a safety-minded and detail-oriented professional, it is imperative that you also demonstrate: 

  • Support and compliance with the company's Safety Management policies and procedures; 
  • Understanding of a client's safety policies and procedures and performing all required checklists and forms under the company's OHSP regulations; 
  • Constant monitoring of the mental and physical fatigue of all employees and ensuring that all staff are adequately trained in the safe performance of their duties; and 
  • Regular attendance at departmental safety meetings. 

 To qualify for this role, you will have: 

  • A post-secondary education in Forestry; 
  • Registration, or eligibility to register, with ABCFP (or other provincial equivalent); 
  • Min. 5 years of road and block layout, and timber cruising experience; and  
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to operate ATVs and snowmobiles.  

As a strong communicator and supportive team player, you will have proven ability to mentor and develop field crew members. Similarly the ability to meet the physical demands of the role is essential. 

Working a 5 on/2 off or 10 on/4 off schedule, you must have the ability to travel to projects, as required.
