About the Opportunity

Join Junee Shire Council as a full time Finance Manager and help make a real difference to the local community. 

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration and supported by a team of four, your main responsibility will be to manage the day-to-day financial activities of Council to ensure effective and sound financial and accounting practices across the organisation. Providing financial and technical advice to relevant stakeholders across all Council departments, you'll provide insights into commercial opportunities, revenue analysis and organisational efficiencies to facilitate strategic decision making.

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing day-to-day management to the financial team;
  • Preparing annual financial reports;
  • Collaborating with the Director of Finance and Administration to prepare the Council's Operational Plan, Delivery Program and Long Term Financial Plan;
  • Completing quarterly budget reviews;
  • Assisting with the preparation of the Council's Annual Report;
  • Coordinating monthly Cashbook reconciliations;
  • Creating and submitting RMS grant returns;
  • Building management accounting reports and attending board meetings as required; and
  • Developing and reviewing policies, procedures, strategies and other key documents.

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Finance, Accounting or Business, with previous local government experience in a related role (preferably within NSW) and have a comprehensive understanding of property rating. Candidates with CA or CPA qualifications will be held in high regard, though this is not essential to the role.

You must be computer literate with the ability to utilise a range of computer programs to produce monthly and annual financial statements and reports, correspondence and presentations. Knowledge of Civica Authority corporate software will be highly regarded.

This role will suit an analytical and innovative financial professional who is skilled in managing staff and working collaboratively with other technical professionals. In addition, you'll be an excellent communicator with the ability to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels, both within and external to Council. An existing understanding of corporate business environments, local government processes and quality management frameworks as well as a structured approach to the work environment is a must.
