About the Organisation

NPA Family and Community Services ATSI Corporation (NPA) is a government funded, not-for-profit organisation situated in the scenic town of Bamaga at the very tip of Cape York Peninsula.

The organisation is focused on reducing the levels of family violence in the area, as well as improving the status and self-esteem of the community's indigenous residents. NPA also addresses social issues and problems of domestic and family violence, child abuse and child neglect, drug and alcohol abuse, youth suicide, youth crime, teenage pregnancy and family conflicts.

NPA is dedicated to providing support and encouragement to individuals to take control of their lives to develop their lifestyles into a positive outcome as well as acting as an advocate for women, children, men and family units.

Amongst NPA's services are two child care centres. Umagico child care centre is a new 29 place long day centre, with 8 staff.  Injinoo child care centre is a 30 place long day care centre with 10 employees.

About the Opportunity

NPA currently has an exciting opportunity for a Manager / Social Worker - Client Support Services to join their Family Resource Centre in Bamaga, Cape York. This position is funded for two years.

This role is responsible for the management of social work and support services delivered by the organisation inclusive of NPA Healing Services and NPA Women's Shelter.

You will also manage social work and support staff inclusive of:

  • Social Worker Domestic Violence
  • Social Worker Men's Drug & Alcohol Abuse
  • Social Worker Emotional Wellbeing
  • Indigenous Community Liaison Officer
  • NPA Women's Shelter Manager

As Manager, you will be responsible for the completion of performance reports for government departments who provide funding for services; and managing systems and processes to maintain the organisation's quality systems and accredited status.

Services provide structured counselling for indigenous and non-indigenous females and males in the NPA regarding domestic and family violence, substance abuse, social emotional wellbeing, financial issues, advocacy and referral to other support services.

Clients may be self-referred, or may come via mandatory referrals through the Court system, or may be referred through the Women's Crisis Shelter or the Department of Child Safety.

To be the successful candidate you will need to hold a Bachelor of Social Work, along with minimum 5 years previous experience in a social work role. Qualifications in Management or HR will be highly regarded (but are not essential).

You will require experience managing professional social work staff, counselling indigenous females and males, and working within a case management system.

This position requires that the applicant has no criminal history, a current driver's licence, and possession or eligibility for a Working with Children Blue Card. You will also need to a hold a current membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Additionally, you'll need to have a good level of computer literacy, as you'll be maintaining electronic client files and database systems.

Fully-furnished two-bedroom air-conditioned accommodation is provided with the position at $80/week and NPA will cover relocation costs of up to $3,000.
