The beautiful town of Coonabarabran is located on the junction of the Newell and Oxley Highways, and is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane. It is the closest town to the Sliding Springs Observatory, which is home to Australia's largest telescope. Along with it's pristine night sky, the gorgeous scenery is perfect for hiking, with the Warrumbungle National Park nearby. About the Opportunity

Warrumbungle Shire Council has an opportunity to have an Environment Health Officer join their team on a full time basis. Reporting to the Manager of Regulatory Services, you will be responsible for the environmental and public health services of the Shire. Your day-to-day duties include, but are not limited to;

  • Administering various inspections such as the Council’s Food premises inspection process and the Council’s legionella and skin penetration inspection process;
  • Conducting environmental education campaign;
  • Compiling, creating and analyzing environmental data and assist in preparation of the State of Environment Report;
  • Developing and implementing community education programs in food safety, plumbing information and wood smoke, and;
  • Developing and recommending improvements to work practices to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the environmental health assessment processes.

To be successful in this role, you will need a Diploma/Certificate IV level qualification in Environmental Health or related disciplines with at least 4-8 years’ experience. You will need a sound knowledge of environmental health matters and legislation as it relates to NSW government, a demonstrated high level of experience with waste management, food surveillance, water and environmental health monitoring, septic tank inspections and waste water management and possess a current class “C” driver’s licence.

Whilst it is not required, having Authorized Officer Training PEOE Act and a Certificate IV in Food Surveillance would be highly regarded.
