About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Editor in Research Communication to join their team in Melbourne or Sydney, on a part-time basis working 30 hours a week . As a Specialist Editor, you’ll be responsible for the creation and production of resources that convey the science of parenting and child development to a range of audiences, and across a number of publications, in order to create practical and effective solutions for families.

Your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Managing and overseeing the completion of summaries, research snapshots, reports, papers, presentations and other publications;
  • Providing expert advice and specialist support to project teams on the development and management of publications;
  • Preparing communications about PRC’s processes and research achievements to various audiences including policy makers, practitioners, and the general community;
  • Liaising with researchers, scientists and relevant policy and other stakeholders to identify issues of current public interest; and
  • Coordinating contributors, and reviewing processes and deadlines for a range of products.

The ideal candidate will hold post-graduate qualifications in fields such as science communication, communications, social science or related fields, alongside experience translating complex science into communication suitable for a broad range of both technical and non-technical audiences. A strong understanding of the scientific process and standard methods used in the community support and social welfare research sector is a must for this role. This position would suit candidates who have experience working in roles such as a managing editor, report writer, science communicator, or a knowledge broker/translator.

You will have a high level of writing and editing skills, specifically relating to science and research based copy for any audience, alongside a high aptitude for translating complex scientific or theoretical concepts to all audiences.

Your demonstrated skills in project planning and management of editorial products will ensure you are able to produce high quality communications whilst adhering to strict deadlines. Your strong collaboration skills will allow you to liaise and work with a range of stakeholders including researchers, practitioners, and policy developers.
